In today’s brief interview on Press TV (Iran), I was given the opportunity to comment on what the Chinese are saying about NATO’s expansion into Asia and also on what they have not yet said about the greater threat to their security coming from the Biden Administration’s decision a day ago to deliver military hardware to Taiwan by redirecting there military aid that otherwise had been approved for Ukraine.

In dem heutigen kurzen Interview mit Press TV (Iran) hatte ich Gelegenheit, mich zu den Äußerungen der Chinesen über die Expansion der NATO nach Asien zu äußern und auch zu dem, was sie noch nicht über die größere Bedrohung ihrer Sicherheit gesagt haben, die von der Entscheidung der Biden-Administration vor einem Tag ausgeht, militärische Ausrüstung an Taiwan zu liefern, indem sie dort Militärhilfe umleitet, die ansonsten für die Ukraine genehmigt worden wäre.

L’ambassadeur de Chine en Russie commente les dangers de l’expansion de l’OTAN en Asie

Lors de la brève interview accordée aujourd’hui à Press TV (Iran), j’ai eu l’occasion de commenter ce que les Chinois disent de l’expansion de l’OTAN en Asie, ainsi que ce qu’ils n’ont pas encore dit au sujet de la plus grande menace pour leur sécurité résultant de la décision prise il y a un jour par l’administration Biden de livrer du matériel militaire à Taïwan en réorientant l’aide militaire qui avait été approuvée pour l’Ukraine.

Gilbert Doctorow's latest book, "War Diaries. The Russia-Ukraine War, 2022-2023" is a unique contribution to literature on the war thanks to the author's reports on the Russian home front written during his periodic visits to St Petersburg at a time when Russia no longer issued visas and nearly all Western journalists had left the country. Gilbert Doctorow is a professional Russia watcher and actor in Russian affairs going back to 1965. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1967), a past Fulbright scholar, and holder of a Ph.D. with honors in history from Columbia University (1975). After completing his studies, Mr. Doctorow pursued a business career focused on the USSR and Eastern Europe. For twenty-five years he worked for US and European multinationals in marketing and general management with regional responsibility. From 1998-2002, Doctorow served as the Chairman of the Russian Booker Literary Prize in Moscow. During the 2010-2011 academic year, he was a Visiting scholar of the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. Mr. Doctorow is a long-time resident of Brussels.

  2. So many people I know think of NATO as the most virtuous, defensive alliance on the planet. They can do no wrong and their expansion is always justified. Unlike some others I’ve never thought that the Ukraine conflict would mean the dissolution of NATO, but I’d be so happy to see it happen–regardless of the reason.
