‘Dialogue Works’ edition of 22 October: BRICS and the Conflicts in Ukraine and Middle East

This morning’s BBC World News featured an interview with a university professor in the U.K. who acknowledged that the about to open BRICS Summit in Kazan is a very important event indeed given the large number of global leaders in attendance.  Other Western media were attentive to the event and exercised something resembling responsible journalism instead of the usual anti-Russian propaganda.

Not the White House spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre who was completely dismissive, seeing nothing in the Kazan gathering worthy of comment.

In light of this special position on the subject taken by official America, I would not be at all surprised if either Israel or Ukraine, both client states of the USA should, in the words of ‘Dialogue Works’ host Nima Alkhorshid “do something stupid.”  Indeed, if Israel finally stages its long-delayed reprisal strike on Iran in the coming two days that would fit nicely into my assertion that Israel is the tail that the dog (Washington) waves. We shall see soon.

The question of what BRICS represents in today’s world was central to today’s chat.

In den BBC World News wurde heute Morgen ein Interview mit einem Universitätsprofessor aus dem Vereinigten Königreich ausgestrahlt, der bestätigte, dass der kurz vor der Eröffnung stehende BRICS-Gipfel in Kasan angesichts der großen Zahl der anwesenden globalen Führungspersönlichkeiten in der Tat ein sehr wichtiges Ereignis sei. Andere westliche Medien schenkten dem Ereignis Aufmerksamkeit und übten so etwas wie verantwortungsvollen Journalismus anstelle der üblichen antirussischen Propaganda.

Nicht so die Sprecherin des Weißen Hauses, Karine Jean-Pierre, die völlig abweisend war und in der Versammlung in Kasan nichts sah, was einen Kommentar wert wäre.

Angesichts dieser besonderen Position, die das offizielle Amerika zu diesem Thema einnimmt, wäre ich überhaupt nicht überrascht, wenn entweder Israel oder die Ukraine, beides Klientelstaaten der USA, mit den Worten von „Dialogue Works“-Moderator Nima Alkhorshid „etwas Dummes tun“ würden. Sollte Israel in den kommenden zwei Tagen tatsächlich seinen lange aufgeschobenen Vergeltungsschlag gegen den Iran starten, würde das gut zu meiner Behauptung passen, dass Israel der Schwanz ist, mit dem der Hund (Washington) wedelt. Gilbert Doctorow's latest book, "War Diaries. The Russia-Ukraine War, 2022-2023" is a unique contribution to literature on the war thanks to the author's reports on the Russian home front written during his periodic visits to St Petersburg at a time when Russia no longer issued visas and nearly all Western journalists had left the country. Gilbert Doctorow is a professional Russia watcher and actor in Russian affairs going back to 1965. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1967), a past Fulbright scholar, and holder of a Ph.D. with honors in history from Columbia University (1975). After completing his studies, Mr. Doctorow pursued a business career focused on the USSR and Eastern Europe. For twenty-five years he worked for US and European multinationals in marketing and general management with regional responsibility. From 1998-2002, Doctorow served as the Chairman of the Russian Booker Literary Prize in Moscow. During the 2010-2011 academic year, he was a Visiting scholar of the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. Mr. Doctorow is a long-time resident of Brussels.

  2. I think I speak for all canines when I say that it’s all dog. To make a distinction between the United States and Israel could perhaps be convenient for the likes of Biden, Blinken, and Nod, but I guarantee to you that United States citizens as well as the rest of the world cannot see the difference.
