In the past couple of weeks, there have been numerous articles in The New York Times and other mainstream disseminators of the CIA and White House propaganda lines regarding an alleged presence of North Korean troops in Russia to fight in Kursk against the Ukrainian forces there. US intelligence was said to have spotted via satellite images some 12,000 North Korean infantrymen in Russia of whom 10,000 were said to have been incorporated into a Russian force numbering 50,000 that would, any day now, make an all-out attack on the remaining Ukrainians occupying this Russian Federation territory.
Those same articles told us that the United States government considered the introduction of North Korean troops into the battle to represent a big escalation in the war by the Kremlin. So it was just a matter of time before Washington would respond with its own counter-escalation. Yesterday’s announcement by Biden’s office told us he has just decided to give Kiev freedom to use American supplied ATACMs missiles with a 300 km radius of operation to strike inside the Russian Federation as it wishes.
As I observed yesterday, this decision overturns Biden’s decision of 14 September never to allow its medium or long range missiles to be used inside the RF. This was a decision forced on him by Pentagon officials who would have made reference Putin’s clearly stated intention days earlier to make this a casus belli against the suppliers of the missiles (in the case of ATACMS) or of the technology needed to operate such missiles (in the case of Storm Shadow).
Lest we hyperventilate about the risks to which Biden was now exposing the Continental USA,unofficial US news sources tell us this morning that Washington has insisted that Kiev strike with ATACMS only targets within the Kursk oblast, supporting the notion that the objective is strictly a proportional tit-for-tat over the North Korean presence there. Indeed, if the Russians’ version of how such weapons are used, namely that all preparation and targeting is done by U.S. soldiers or U.S. military contractors, whatever strikes on Russia using ATACMS Kiev may claim, real control rests with Americans so they know very well what will be hit and where.
Let us put aside for the moment that the limitation on geography for attack is only temporary and will be expanded in the near future whenever Washington is ready to up the ante. Let us be explicit about what attacking the Kursk region means.
There are only two possible types of targets in Kursk oblast worthy of discussion. One is troop concentrations of Russians and North Koreans performing the mopping up operation in Kursk. ATACMS strikes there probably will not initially force the Russians to respond. The second is the nuclear power plant in the region which was believed to be the prize initially sought by Kiev when it began its incursion.
Let us remember that the Kursk nuclear power plant is an early type plant which has no protective concrete dome over it to contain radioactive leaks and to prevent missile strikes from disabling it. Accordingly, an ATACMS strike on the plant will likely create a big, even devastating leak of radioactive particles across the region, meaning predominantly on Russian territory. Such an eventuality would force the hand of Putin to respond with a nuclear attack, likely on the Continental United States with all that means.

Before closing out this commentary, I am obliged to say what significance I see in the entry of North Korean soldiers on Russian Federation territory and possibly their deployment in Kursk.
I agree with Washington that this represents an important escalation by the Russians. But it has nothing to do with the war in and about Ukraine. It is a Russian response to U.S. actions in the Far East, where it is mobilizing South Korea and Japan against China in its containment policy there, against North Korea to apply maximum threats against Pyongyang, and ….against Russia in its containment policy on the RF everywhere.
By exercising its rights under the recently ratified mutual defense treaty with North Korea and inviting Pyongyang to move a substantial contingent of fighting men to the Western border of the Russian Federation, Moscow is serving notice on Washington that its own ‘sphere of influence,’ if I may paraphrase Barack Obama in his widely quoted insult to Putin about his country’s place in the world, extends to many, many areas, as should be expected from the world’s largest country accounting for 12 percent of the world’s land mass.
Let us be frank, Russia is well positioned by its common land border with North Korea to enable Pyongyang to overrun South Korea at any time of its choosing. And this is what has set off alarm bells in the Biden camp, not the paltry supplemental fighting force that North Korea adds to a 600,000 Russian military in or just near the war zone with Ukraine.

What is the actual evidence for Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, aside from claims from Ukrainian sources? I read lots of opinions that the integration of Korean soldiers would cause more trouble than it would be worth, due to different levels of technology, philosophy, comand structure, language barrier etc.
Especially Mark Sleboda stresses the integrability problems, but admits that Korean soldiers have been training in the RF for quite some time, but he says at most Korean officers are in Kursk to observe Russian tactics and use of technology.

Sleboda is a snarky, know-it-all and gasbag. The DPRK’s military was founded by the Soviet Union.
Thier operability vis-a-vis Russia is generational to start with, and we can bet a lot of stuff has been going on under the table for years.
The current ATACAMS nonsense is all sizzle and no steak, the idea it’ll allow Ukraine to hold land in Kursk oblast or that such a paltry amount boondock territory, which they’re going to take back forcefully.
Would make Russia give up anything at the peacetable, is farcical.

I was googling around following this announcement, and it appears that either the US has not even delivered any long-range ATACMS to Ukraine yet, or it has only a few missiles currently available to send. I don’t know how true it is, but if so, it accords with your claim about “all sizzle but no steak.”
So I think either Biden & Co. just want to make it look like they’re doing something, or they want to create a problem for the incoming administration (there’s a history of that – for example, Bush I’s Somalia intervention in 1992, which the Clinton admin had to clean up).

I am at a loss to distinguish between supplying these missiles to Ukraine to attack Russian territory and an act of war/declaration of war by the United States against Russia.
And, of course, this supplies the missing link. The question on every sentient human being’s mind in the United States has to be: How can the United States be this stupid?
And the answer is: because the people running the United States, namely the people at the CIA, are stupid… and venal.

Look at the history. Who shot down thirty-two B-52s over North Vietnam? Russia. SAM’s supplied by Russia.
Look at the present. Ukraine is Vietnam without the draft and without the Dump Johnson movement. It is the final solution.

It seems that repetition ad infinitum of an accusation eventually makes it fact. But does it? There still isn’t any evidence there are North Korean soldiers fighting Ukrainians in either Russia or Ukraine.
Are the North Korean soldiers fighting in Kursk as real as Saddam’s WMD? As real as the Kuwaiti incubator babies thrown on the ground by Iraqi soldiers? As real as the viagra provided by Khadaffi to his soldiers to make them rape better? As real as Russia attacking North Stream, the Crimea bridge, the Zaphorzia NPP or massacring the Russia aligned volunteers in Bucha? As real Assad using sarin? As real as the Gulf of Tonkin attack? As real as the poisoning of the Skrippals with one of the worlds most lethal poisons ever designed?
Until there is any proof, the assertion of “North Korean troops fighting in the Ukraine war theater” should at a minimum be enclosed between quotes.

why do you mention it again, as in one of your previous articles, and regard it as a given, that North Korean soldiers are indeed present and fighting for the RF in or around Kursk, only based on USUKUkrainian propaganda messaging? Believable evidence is missing but, so why play along with this obvious Fake News spread through Western parrot media on behalf of the five eyes war freaks!?

And what’s new anyhow..the USEU backers of fascist Ukraine have been terrorising RF territory for many months now with drones and missiles..active attacks far into Russia by obviously Nato military personnel “disguised” as foreign mercenaries..now officially authorised by geriatric Biden..for he don’t know what he is doing or asking for…may sanity prevail despite those five eyes criminal lunatics asking for nuclear annihilation rather sooner than later?!

This is just the Biden administration trying to make it as hard as possible for Trump to be able to succeed in Ukraine. Biden, Blinken, Sullivan, and Austin have been a disaster. They have nothing to loose at this point. They are on their way out, why not authorize the missile strikes?

Unless my reading comprehension skills have gone, I read nothing official from Biden , the State Department nor the Pentagon that confirms they have allowed its usage.
Normally one would assume that it must be official policy confirmed by a high enough source, seeing as the entire western media is quoting it as gospel. However we have recently experienced the make-believe phone call between Trump and Putin from the WP, so this could be a lie too or perhaps an intel deception op in itself to observe Russian big weapons systems movements to the threat of the ATACMS striking.
Maybe in their calculations were they not to officially confirm anything, they would be banking on the Kremlin to be too secretive and deny the hit ever took place or that a drone caused the damage.
The increasingly inept Peskov hasn’t done Russia many favours with his responses. Russia has very powerful non nuclear missiles apenty , but by limiting his responses to possible, abstract use of nuclear weapons of which none of the western bigwigs are expecting Putin to use at this moment, he’s making Russia look like a sitting duck.
Great from Mr Doctorow, but what a shameful indictment of the gutless and downright bad western media that not one of them have made comment about the Kursk Nuclear power station and these missiles
