It was a pleasure to join Professor Diesen for what surely will be seen as a controversial discussion of the logic in Donald Trump’s bid to take possession of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and still more controversial discussion of Europe’s latest steps to prepare for war with Russia while defying Trump and facing the total loss of the U.S. defense umbrella.
Where does all this lead us? As I have said elsewhere in the past couple of days, the U.S.-Russian rapprochement that is now in heated discussion between Putin and Trump is firstly directed at beating Europe and Ukraine into submission to their will. After all, as Trump said bluntly to Zelensky during their Oval Office altercation, you have to consider who has the cards and who doesn’t. With respect to Europe and NATO, Trump has all the cards, Europe has none.
Used nuclear fuel is available to Ukraine within Ukraine. no dirty bomb so far.

That is a very interesting observation: Turning the tables, by having Europe want to eject the United States from NATO, because of the United States’ desire to end hostilities with Russia, has echoes of George Washington’s admonition to Americans to “avoid foreign entanglements” in his farewell address. This could very well allow to US Senate to perceive NATO as something the United States no longer needs or leads but as a foreign entanglement that is dragging the United States into an unwanted foreign war.
Dr Doctorow, you are currently one of the few analysts out there that seem to be able to discern the patterns through all of the smoke. Many of the others, who I have regularly watched over the last three years, seem to be caught in a maximalist anti-war purity spiral. Thus, instead of explaining events to us and making sense of the world, they are championing a position (which is very admirable BTW) that makes it very difficult for them to provide sagacious analysis. I think I seek out voices like yours because you show there is a “method to the madness”, which is reassuring, verses voices that tout that the United States is going barmy, only reinforcing the disconcerting sentiment I arrived with before watching their interview.
I had no idea you had a blog like this before Judge Napolitano mentioned it this week. I am sure I will become a regular reader now that I know! Thanks for all of your hard work !!!
