This morning, I was interviewed by this leading Indian global broadcaster in sevedal segments. The link to the first segment is provided here below. It is about yesterday’s Russian missile and drone attacks on Lviv in Western Ukraine that caused several deaths and much destruction. In the interview I explain why Lviv was spared the worst of Russian attacks till now and why this escalation by Russia is taking place.

The other segments dealt with continuing NATO complaints over alleged Russian violations of their sovereign territory; what yesterday’s victory of Andrej Babis’s ANO party means for the EU balance between the war-mongering countries in the majority and the growing minority who oppose them; the closer ties between Russia and Tajikistan; and what sense to make of the street demonstrations in Tbilisi, Georgia during this time of municipal elections.

Gilbert Doctorow's latest book, "War Diaries. The Russia-Ukraine War, 2022-2023" is a unique contribution to literature on the war thanks to the author's reports on the Russian home front written during his periodic visits to St Petersburg at a time when Russia no longer issued visas and nearly all Western journalists had left the country. Doctorow's two-volume "Memoirs of a Russianist" published in 2020 also constitutes a category of its own, consisting largely of diary entries rather than reminiscences written decades later.. Volume 2 focuses on the community of 50,000 expatriate managers working and living in Moscow during the 1990s, about which none of his peers has yet to write. Gilbert Doctorow is a professional Russia watcher and actor in Russian affairs going back to 1965. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1967), a past Fulbright scholar, and holder of a Ph.D. with honors in history from Columbia University (1975). After completing his studies, Mr. Doctorow pursued a business career focused on the USSR and Eastern Europe. For twenty-five years he worked for US and European multinationals in marketing and general management with regional responsibility. From 1998-2002, Doctorow served as the Chairman of the Russian Booker Literary Prize in Moscow. During the 2010-2011 academic year, he was a Visiting scholar of the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. Mr. Doctorow is a long-time resident of Brussels.

  1. Trump wants Europeans to buy American weapons to prolong the war in Ukraine. France under Nato auspices seizes a tanker in the Baltic to deny Russia access to the sea and their trading partners. Nato does this, Nato does that. I keep wondering when Russia says enough, calls the member states of Nato and says WATCH THIS and proceeds to plant multiple Hazelnut trees in Brussels and removes Nato headquarters from the world. Followed by a simple statement of either negotiate or be NUKED.

  2. Have you considered…..that the 2 wars cheered by the Anglos…..are LINKED to each other since inception, by design? Bibi has long planned his “Greater Israel” strategy (Bibi has been a fixture of US political scene for 34 years and counting……and i’ve had the misfortune of hearing about him that long), and Bibi is ONLY comfortable doing the “Greater Israel” game with the Russians tied to the stake in Ukraine so to speak. And Bibi has all the time in the world….till he plots his next steps…..they throw around “Negotiations” with the “Sock Puppet” opposition ISrael itself created, a double game, and expect the world to swallow this nonsense EVERY DAY. You will not see an end to UKR war till BiBi allows it.
